Any shepherd will tell you they love the smell, feel, weight, and texture of a freshly shorn fleece. The ewe who gave it up is also pleased, because her pink
skin can feel the cool air and prepare to grow a new fleece for next year’s winter. And if you weave, knit, felt, crotchet, spin, and sew, you too have a deep appreciation for home grown, carefully handled 100% wool!
The wool is shorn right here on the farm, and shipped to Bartlett Yarns in Maine, where it is processed using traditional methods, into full weight (4 oz.) skeins of 2-ply yarn.
Each skein of 2-ply yarn measures 210 yards and 4 ounces. We’re told an average sweater uses 8 skeins. More experienced with weaving, we estimate about 600 yards warp and 800 yards weft to make a 4’x6’ throw. If you need a refresher on calculating yarn for a weaving project, we’ve found this weaving site helpful. Please estimate your project needs carefully.
Each skein is $7.00. We will estimate shipping costs, after you have sent us your order
We have several colors available at this time. If you are planning a big project, we recommend you buy all of your yarn at one time, because availability is not guaranteed. We re-stock once a year, when the flock is shorn. Though the skeins match the colors depicted very closely, we are not responsible for slight variations between the yarn and the image on your computer screen. If you are really unhappy, please call or email. However, we know you will be pleased and urge you to purchase all the yarn for your project at one time
All orders are placed using email. Julia will confirm your order back to you for product and shipping costs. We try to confirm all orders within 24 hours.
To place your order, email Julia at orders, and include color and number of skeins.
